Salehe Bembury, vice president of men’s footwear at Versace, sneaker lover and former designer for Yeezy, GAP and Cole Haan, has become an essential name in the sneaker scene. Known for redesigning archival silhouettes and footwear projects with an inventive approach, his work has left an indelible mark on brands such as New Balance, Crocs, Moncler and Clarks, where he has transformed classic products into essential pieces with a touch of gorp style. Now, the question arises: will PUMA be Salehe Bembury’s next big collaboration?
The year started off strong with the launch of New Balance’s 1906R in January, a masterpiece that fuses vibrant colours with tech-wear textures. Subsequently, the Crocs Pollex redefined comfort by fusing a trainer silhouette with the distinctive Pollex rubber sole. Moncler was not far behind and, together with Bembury, introduced the Trailgrip GTX hiking boot. Speculation about a collaboration with PUMA was ignited after Bembury’s latest Instagram post, where he appears next to a private jet holding a sign proclaiming: “TOP SECRET PUMA IDEAS”.
