self-portrait has taken another step forward in its history with the launch of its new program: self-portrait Residency. This innovative project, led by the brand’s founder and creative director, Han Chong, seeks to merge talents from various disciplines in a collaborative environment that encourages artistic expression and demonstrates that fashion can be a catalyst for new ideas.
The first installment could not have gotten off to a more promising start with Christopher Kane, one of the most influential designers of his generation, taking on the role of inaugural resident on this new path for the London-based brand. Kane has worked to reinterpret key elements of his spring-summer 2007 debut collection, incorporating reminiscences from his archive.
Kane’s collection for self-portrait Residency is distinguished by its rich combination of textures: from crystal mesh to lace ruffles and bias-cut satin dresses. Intricate lace panels and architectural silhouettes are combined with the brand’s signature material palette.
To present it, Kane chose his loyal collaborator, Carine Roitfeld, former editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris, to star in the campaign. Photographed in her Parisian home by Larissa Hofmann, Roitfeld brings an unforced sophistication, underlining the ability of the pieces in this collection to function in both everyday settings and high-end events. These images mark just the beginning of a campaign that will be extended in the coming days, with a larger cast that will reflect the diversity and versatility of the collection.
Since its founding in 2013, self-portrait has redefined the concept of affordable luxury, bringing to life contemporary designs that have become popular with celebrities such as Meghan Markle, Zendaya and Gigi Hadid, cementing itself as a leader in affordable fashion. With the launch of the Residency program, Han Chong expands the brand’s mission, inviting designers and artists to join a creative lab in the heart of London. This approach promises to inject freshness and innovation into the self-portrait catalog, while highlighting both established and emerging talent.
The self-portrait Residency by Christopher Kane collection is available now from November 21 at 8 PM GMT, on self-portrait.com, the brand’s boutiques in Mayfair and Chelsea, and through retail partners such as Harvey Nichols, Bloomingdales, Selfridges and Club21.
