Last year, it was not Disney or Pixar but Illumination that launched the highest-grossing animated film: ‘Minions, the origin of Gru’. The studio is also betting big on ‘Super Mario Bros. The Movie’ and ‘Shrek 5’.
While it is true that the latest Shrek films were not up to the level of the first two, few welcomed the news of the reboot. The franchise’s characters are so beloved and recognisable that it would be hard to imagine them in any other guise and with any other voices.
The only problem is that Shrek 5 and the possible Donkey spin-off are still a long way off. It is likely that we will have to wait several years to enjoy these films. Anyway, it’s good news to know that these characters will be back on the big screen.
