One year ago, Lionel Messi led the Argentina national team to victory at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Sotheby’s is now auctioning a unique set of six jerseys worn by the player during the tournament, spanning from the group stage to the historic final.
The collection, which includes jerseys from the final, semifinals, quarterfinals and more, will be offered for sale from November 30 to December 14. It is estimated that this auction could become the most valuable auction of sports memorabilia, anticipating that it will reach figures in excess of $10 million.
This exclusive batch of World Cup jerseys will be auctioned by U.S. tech startup AC Momento. Part of the funds raised during the auction will go to the UNICAS Project, led by the Sant Joan de Déu (SJD) Children’s Hospital in Barcelona, with the support of the Leo Messi Foundation. These funds will contribute to meet the needs of children affected by rare diseases.
The auction will open on November 30 and will feature a public exhibition at Sotheby’s New York providing an opportunity to appreciate the sports relics up close before they find their new home.
