SPAM comes to La Térmica: fashion, creativity and the 1st International David Delfín Original Talent Award

From 18 to 20 November, La Térmica in Málaga will become the epicentre of contemporary fashion, where emerging talent, art and culture will merge with the first edition of the David Delfín Talento Original International Award. For three intense days, the city will witness a programme full of activities such as colloquiums, performances, fashion shows and exhibitions, with the participation of the nine finalists of the competition.

The competition has attracted almost a hundred designers from all over the world, with entries from Spain, the United States, France, Japan, the United Kingdom, Belgium and Germany, among other countries. From this total, a committee of experts has selected the nine finalists who will present their collections on 20 November. The winner of the award will receive a prize of 10,000 euros and a statuette designed by visual artist Irene Molina, inspired by David Delfín’s iconic TuttiFrutti collection presented at Fashion Week Madrid 2013.

The finalists include internationally renowned designers such as Milagros Pereda from Parsons Paris, Sara Maneiro from Esdemga (University of Vigo), and Mandula Maczkó from Polimoda, who will compete with innovative proposals that reinterpret contemporary fashion from a unique perspective.

SPAM programme: a festival of fashion and creativity

The SPAM programme kicks off on Monday 18 November, with a reception for designers and experts and an exclusive visit to the ‘Ballon Mood’ installation by Álvaro Calafat, a resin sculpture that explores the evolution of one of the brand’s most representative elements, the ball. This ephemeral installation can be visited during the event and will be made up of eight unique pieces.

Tuesday 19 November will be the day of the round tables and colloquiums, all with free admission until full capacity is reached. At 11:00h, Rosemary Rodríguez, founder of the AMA agency, Camilla Corsini, designer and product developer, and Milagros Pereda, finalist of the David Delfín Award, among others, will talk about the challenges of fashion in the 21st century. In the afternoon, at 17:30h, the round table ‘David Delfín, the unexpected look’ will be held, where the influence of the Malaga-born designer on emerging talent will be analysed, with the participation of figures such as Helena López de Hierro, Xavi García and Franx de Cristal.

In addition, at 20:00h, the public will be able to enjoy the performance ‘David Delfín, mi vida anterior’, directed by Dani Pannullo. The piece, divided into three acts, will cover different key moments in Delfín’s career, from his incursion into the performing arts to his leap into the world of haute couture. The performance will feature actors, dancers and DJs, and original costumes from the Davidelfin collections on loan from Gorka Postigo.

The evening of 19 November will culminate with a DJ session by Foie Grassy and Gazzi, who will be spinning from 8pm until midnight.

The finalists’ big catwalk show

Wednesday 20 November will be the day of the fashion shows, where the finalists of the David Delfín Talento Original International Award will present their collections in front of a jury of international experts. Throughout the day there will be fashion shows at La Térmica, with morning and afternoon shows, which will be broadcast in real time on a giant screen installed in one of the gallery’s courtyards. The day will end with an exclusive after-party and the presentation of the prize to the winning designer.

The competition’s jury is made up of renowned figures such as Rosmary Rodríguez, creative director of Paco Rabanne and Thierry Mugler, Patrick Cabasset, editor of Vogue Paris, and Leticia García, editor-in-chief of Smoda, among others. Alongside them, a committee of experts including Rosa Orrantia, founder of Persuade, and Domingo Rodríguez, creator of Dominnico, will ensure a rigorous evaluation of emerging talent.

The event is supported by La Diputación Provincial de Málaga, Kia as official car, and Cervezas Victoria, among others. In addition, Málaga de Moda, Wella Professionals and other institutions collaborate in this initiative that positions the city as a cultural and creative reference.
