Studio Ghibli: three perfumes inspired by Hayao Miyazaki’s protagonists

Studio Ghibli has created three perfumes with scents reminiscent of their films, each inspired by their female protagonists.

The perfume dedicated to Kiki is called Maria-Regale and is based on the flowers and herbs found in the protagonist’s family home. It contains notes of pear, jasmine and lily of the valley. The one dedicated to Sighs from My Heart is called Classic Tea and its scent is a blend of black tea, amber and yuzu. The third perfume is inspired by Howl’s Wandering Castle, called White Bouquet and is made from the flowers of Howl’s secret garden: inside are notes of rose, cedarwood and lily.

Studio Ghibli is branching out with this perfume line, and this is just the beginning of what’s to come this season. Last month, director Hayao Miyazaki returned from retirement to release his latest feature film after years of production. How Do You Live has already broken box office records overseas, and GKIDS has confirmed that the film (titled The Boy and the Heron in English) will hit US theatres later this year.

The perfumes went on sale in Japan at the end of July and can be ordered online through Donguri Kyowkoku shops.

The opening date of the new Mononoke area in Ghibli Park is now available.
