From a collaboration with Mobb Deep, to the return of the Motion Logo graphic, this streetwear capsule, composed of different graphic tees, embraces all kinds of creative stimuli.
The title track of Mobb Deep’s “Drop A Gem On ‘Em” is prominently displayed on the back of one of the T-shirts, while the front features a tribal-style dragon that was also on the DJ vinyl of “Drop A Gem On ‘Em” and, later, on the cover of 2006’s Life of the Infamous: The Best of Mobb Deep. This is not the first time Supreme has collaborated with Mobb Deep: in 2011 one of the label’s T-shirts featured a photo of the late Prodigy. In addition, he also made an appearance on another T-shirt from the SS18 collection and the SS21 collection.
Aside from this graphic, the other key graphic in the collection is the Motion logo. Inspired by the title sequence of the classic 1990 crime film Goodfellas, the “Motion Logo” was first introduced in 1998 via T-shirts, skateboards, lighters and stickers. Since then it has appeared on different brand silhouettes, from hoodies to long sleeve tees and even in a collaboration with Vans (FW16). The last time it appeared was on short-sleeved T-shirts in the SS20 collection and also in the SS23 collection.
In addition to these two T-shirts, the collection also features a graphic that reuses the cover of the 1993 eponymous debut album by London-based alternative rock band Suede. The album cover featured two individuals kissing, but photographer Tee Corinne himself demanded that Suede crop the photo to protect the identities of his subjects. Now, 30 years later, Supreme is giving the photo its moment in the spotlight.
Also in the Supreme Summer 2023 Tees collection is a tee with the brand’s crown logo, a collage tee featuring everything from cigarettes to half-eaten bananas, as well as a tee with a three-silhouette graphic that appears to be hand-drawn.
The Supreme Summer 2023 T-shirt collection will launch globally through the brand’s web store at 11 a. m. EDT on June 22.
Hardies Hardware by Tyshawn Jones connects with Supreme for the first time.
