Talking w/ Nach: this is Destino, his return that unites generations

Nach returned to the scene in style with Destino, his first album in seven years. A versatile, ambitious and nuanced record, it reaffirms his place as one of the most poetic voices in Spanish rap, while simultaneously projecting him towards new artistic dimensions.

The initial focus is on “La Vida Se Va”, a track with Puerto Rican artist Eladio Carrión, accompanied by a music video, where they reflect on time, the present, and the fleeting nature of life. But Destino is a collaborative project, in which Nach opens his universe to artists from different scenes and countries.

Thus, the album connects with the emotion of Manuel Carrasco, the generational pulse of Trueno, the authenticity of SFDK, the Latin voices of Nanpa Básico and Micro TDH, the melancholy of Alice Wonder, the closeness of Ambkor, and the impact of Akapellah.

HIGHXTAR (H)Seven years without a solo album… how does it feel to return? Is it like starting from scratch again?

Nach (N) It’s not exactly like debuting, but I do feel nerves and a lot of excitement. Above all, there’s anticipation: having something that’s been in my head for so long, shaping it, and finally letting people hear it. Also uncertainty: will it reach them the way it reaches me? But it’s a positive feeling. What I love about making music is living those emotions: writing, recording, seeing the reactions, travelling…

(H)You’ve been called a “legend” of Spanish rap. How do you handle that pressure? Returning with the expectation of being “the best”?

(N) I try not to think about that. I don’t carry the idea of being a legend. I still consider myself a learner. The responsibility I feel is internal: I want every song to give me goosebumps, to make sense for me. If I focus too much on what others expect, it breaks my intimate relationship with music.

(H) Over these years, the urban scene has changed: artists fill stadiums, urban music is mainstream. Where does your music fit today?

(N) Rap has diversified, and that’s fine. Many groups have earned their space because they connect with people. We did the same in our time. For me, the essential thing is to stay here with purpose, to adapt without losing my essence. What I can’t control, I leave aside.

(H)Do you think rap has become a mass phenomenon?

(N) I’d say urban music has. Within it, there are those who show their art authentically and those who go for more commercial formulas. I continue with the same honest relationship with music: I don’t know how to do it any other way.

(H) Mi Ciudad, with Trueno, conveys that feeling of belonging, of returning to “classic” urban music. Why do you think that format appears less these days?

(N) Perhaps some think the banal sells more, but for me rap is still in the streets, it’s still real. That authenticity is what interests me. Everything else doesn’t fit into my universe.

(H)Destino has a clear mix of classic and modern. What kind of Nach will we hear?

(N) It’s my essence, but with new elements. I’ve listened to what’s happening now and wanted to incorporate some of it. To touch the present, but maintain the timeless: pianos, strings, “traditional” instruments, alongside modern percussion and current tempos. I think that balance has been achieved.

(H) Why the title Destino? What message does it carry?

(N) It speaks of decisions, paths, the inevitable and what has been built. It’s a tribute to the journey taken and a celebration of the present. Every step, every verse, takes you to the place where you’re meant to be.

(H) What would you say to someone who’s never listened to you and will start with Destino?

(N) That they’ll find someone trying to be honest. I share what I live and feel in my songs, with my essence, but also with a desire to keep learning.

With over two decades of career and a legacy that has influenced several generations, Nach opens a new chapter where tradition and modernity merge seamlessly. And this autumn, with the start of his tour across Spain, it will be the audience who writes the next pages of this journey with him.
