The Tokyo Auto Salon is the perfect occasion for Japanese companies like Toyota to present their most daring proposals, and this year was no exception. The brand, through its sports division Toyota Gazoo Racing, has joined the restomod fever by presenting a revision of one of its great icons that has become a cult car.
We are of course talking about the Toyota A86, which is now transformed into a 100% electric or hydrogen-powered model. Both concepts are designed to reinforce Toyota’s commitment to sustainability. It does so with the Toyota AE86 BEV Concept, with batteries and an electric motor, and the Toyota AE86 H2 Concept, whose internal combustion engine is now powered by hydrogen instead of petrol.
The interior also retains the racing essence of the original model, but now features refurbished seats and recycled materials to reaffirm its commitment to sustainability. The brand is gradually working towards making all of its vehicles carbon neutral, while simultaneously focusing on carbon neutralisation in vehicles already on the road.
Ghibli Park and Toyota want to make the Cactus from ‘My Neighbour Totoro’ a reality.
