The new Charli xcx is all about fashion, fame and the apocalypse

In “SS26”, the British designer makes the catwalk the centre of her universe.

After shaking up the pop scene with “BRAT” and diving headfirst into rock with “Rock Music”, Charli XCX surprised fans early this morning with her latest single, “SS26”. In it, she explores themes of the apocalypse, fashion, fame and nihilism, set against a backdrop of flashing strobe lights and directed by Torso (who are also behind other iconic music videos such as “Von Dutch”).

The title makes a direct reference to the Spring/Summer 2026 collections, borrowing the vocabulary of the luxury industry to speak of something far deeper: the emptiness that lies beneath, the overexposure, and the collective sense of marching towards nowhere. That said, high fashion is certainly not missing: Javier Guijarro, Ann Demeulemeester, Chrome Hearts, YSL, Khaite, Vaquera… some of the most iconic brands have a place here, and in the front row we see familiar faces such as Carine Roitfeld, Abra and Anthony Vaccarello.

Far from sticking to a tried-and-tested formula, Charli seems keen to subvert expectations of herself. Whilst ‘BRAT’ turned excess and hedonism into a cultural phenomenon, ‘SS26’ explores what remains after overstimulation: exhaustion, irony and a strangely hollow beauty.
