The new SL-01 shoes follow in line with his minimalist and futuristic style, but with a touch that only Ye knows how to give it. Everything is ultra simple, ultra black, ultra Ye.
The model is completely handmade in a totally black finish that highlights its aesthetic purity. The SL-01 is slip-on, which makes it even more comfortable and easy to wear. With a snug, foot-hugging silhouette, these shoes stand out for their light weight and, of course, the textured sole that ensures stability for everyday wear. And, as you’d expect, the price is ridiculous: $20 a pair. Yes, you read that right, $20.
Not only does this launch reflect Ye’s commitment to democratising fashion (albeit in his own style), but it’s also a clear statement of his philosophy: to make luxury accessible without losing an ounce of character. The move comes alongside a clothing collection under the creative direction of Gosha Rubchinskiy, which was previewed last month.
In his Instagram post, Ye makes a statement of intent: ‘I don’t collaborate’, making it clear that this is his project, with no commitments or partnerships. He also uploads a few photos of himself wearing the SL-01s at Hong Kong airport last year, making it clear that the shoes are more than ready to become the new must-have.
