A special project developed from an idea by Sabato de Sarno and curated by Michela Pelizzari.
Five Italian design icons, re-edited and customised, are on display in an immersive exhibition conceived by Spanish architect Guillermo Santomà at Gucci’ s flagship shop in Milan (via Monte Napoleone 7). They all represent the golden age of Italian design, while emphasising the importance of the relationship between designers, brands, craftsmanship and industrial production. They have also been reissued in the now iconic Rosso Ancora that marks this new era of the Italian house.
- Storet by Nanda Vigo for Acerbis (1994, reedition 2020)
- Alfombra Clessidra, Portaluppi Pattern Project by Nicolò Castellini Baldissera (great-grandson of Piero Portaluppi) based on an iconic design by Piero Portaluppi, edited by cc-tapis (2024)
- Parola by Gad Aulenti and Piero Castiglione for FontanaArte (1980)
- Le Mura by Mario Bellini for Tacchini (1972, reedition 2022)
- Opachi by Tobia Scarpa for Venini (1960, reedition 2021)
“Through Design Ancora, Gucci is not just celebrating historical icons, but creating new ones. The aura that emanates from the brand highlights five pieces by Italian masters that are perfect from a design point of view, but less known to the general public,” says Michela Pelizzari.
For his part, Guillermo Santomà explains that “if we had put all the objects together, we would have created a livingroom. Instead, we decided to eliminate the limits imposed by the use we make of these objects and create a kind of limbo”.
