As it does every year, The Economist Intelligence Unit has carried out its study based on the Global Cost of Living Index and through which it defines the most expensive cities in the world to live in 2022.
The results obtained show that the average cost of living has increased by 8.1% over the last year due to various reasons such as the war in Ukraine or the consequences of the pandemic. Thus, a list was drawn up in which more than 400 individual prices were analysed for more than 200 products and services in 172 different cities.
“We can clearly see the impact in this year’s index, as the average price rise in the 172 cities in our survey is the strongest in 20 years. The rise in petrol prices in cities has been particularly strong but food, utilities and household goods are becoming increasingly expensive for city dwellers,” says Upasana Dutt of The Economist.
