Thirty sold-out nights, surprise guests from the NBA and Hollywood, and an impact of over $200 million on the local economy. Ultimately, Bad Bunny’s residency at El Choli, Puerto Rico, was not just a series of concerts; it was a cultural and political statement.

The residency No Me Quiero Ir de Aquí kicked off in July, right in the middle of the low tourism season, with a show exclusive to locals and under the message “Puerto Rico for Puerto Ricans”. From there, the snowball effect was immediate. Over ten weeks, Benito turned the Coliseum into a global hub, with surprise appearances from Travis Scott, Ricky Martin, LeBron James, and even Penélope Cruz and Bardem in the audience.

The final date, 20 September, coincided with the eighth anniversary of Hurricane Maria. Moreover, it was an unexpected closing, once again reserved for the island but streamed on Amazon Prime, making it the most-watched show on the platform.

On stage, four hours of brutal performance, with 40 songs, meticulous production, and a narrative that moved from political to festive. The first part focused on Debí Tirar Más Fotos, with direct references to colonialism and the social reality of the island. For example, “El Apagón” included a real blackout.

Then came the change of pace with La Casita, a replica of a classic Puerto Rican house, where the festive mood kicked in. Ñengo Flow, Jowell y Randy, Arcángel, and De La Ghetto reinforced the trap section. Meanwhile, the final surprise came with Marc Anthony, who appeared to perform “Preciosa”.

Although Benito returned to close with “DTMF”, the residency was already over. Now, the next chapter is his highly anticipated international tour, taking the rhythm and culture of Puerto Rico to the world.
