A fusion of nostalgia, an appreciation of craftsmanship and a passion for watchmaking has led 1017 Alyx 9SM designer Matthew Williams to create his ideal timepiece with Audemars Piguet.
From an early age, Audemars Piguet held a special place in Williams’ heart, influenced by his father’s best friend, an antique watch dealer. Over time, Williams developed a deep love for watches and the art behind them. As he grew older, his relationship with the brand evolved.
Williams’ father gave him a watch as a gift when he graduated from high school. Whenever Williams could afford it, he would go to his father’s friend to exchange his old watch for a new model, gradually moving up the quality scale, always with the idea of buying a gold Audemars Piguet Royal Oak in mind.
This sentimental foundation laid the groundwork for Williams‘ collaboration with Audemars Piguet. Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak watch has long been considered an icon in the world of luxury watches. The designer has created his own version of the brand’s Royal Oak watch, a classic in the world of luxury watches.
Among them is a unique timepiece for auction, with proceeds going directly to Kids in Motion and Right to Play, two charities for underprivileged children. The range includes two Royal Oak and two Royal Oak Offshore, in addition to the one-of-a-kind piece. Prices range from $73,500 to $111,500.
Williams has opted to take the approach he likes best in watches, with the Royal Oak now more minimalist and featuring a “vertical satin finish” rather than the famous tapisserie dial motifs. The collaboration features an elegant juxtaposition of yellow and white gold that elevates the silhouette as never before.
