With side partings and liquid waves, long layers, warm tones, mahogany and teak… long and extra-long hair will triumph this spring, leaving behind the centre parting and opting for boho vibe waves, bouncy styles and very long feathered and Bardot fringes. Cuts such as the waterfall are perfect for showing off long hair with extra movement. XL and XXL hair with a glossy, polished finish will also be another notable trend from March to early June.
Paul Tudor, director of theDavid Künzle Fuencarral hair salon, analyses the XL and XXL hairstyles we will see this spring: “Rather than standing out for their density and volume, the long or very long hairstyles that will be coming in just a few weeks play more with movement, so it is recommended to also texturise the ends. Cascading waves will help achieve this and will also be on trend, ideal for showing off in a butterfly cut, for example.”
Tudor advises showing off our natural but well-cared-for hair: ‘Avoid brushing from root to tip so as not to damage the hair fibres and, whenever possible, use coconut or jojoba masks and intensive moisturisers to treat it, as well as not overusing heat tools and cutting the ends frequently. If it gets tangled at any time, always use wide-toothed combs.’
Layered bangs are the perfect option for XL and XXL hair, which can be mixed with soft layers for more movement. Birkin and Bardot bangs will continue this spring, as will baby bangs, which will help frame the face more. Among the coolest accessories for extra-long hair are silk scarves, large bows and heirloom hair clips. In terms of colour, warm copper tones, butter blondes and teak browns: ‘Soft tones suit them best, such as hazelnut with woodlight highlights, pearl blondes or glossy cherries, not as strong as those seen in autumn and winter.’
When it comes to different styles for XL/XXL hair, Tudor points to bridal, vintage and Italian boom styles, which also bring us closer to wedding season.
