Timothée Chalamet missed out on the Oscar and, to be honest, the drama didn’t last long. Whilst half the internet was still mulling it over, he did the smartest thing he could do right now: post a picture from Dune: Part Three and change the conversation. Suddenly, it wasn’t about awards or injustices anymore; it was about what really matters – bringing one of the most powerful sagas in recent cinema to a close.
In this new instalment, Paul Atreides – Chalamet’s character – is already in power, but there is absolutely nothing glamorous about governing. Dune 3 is billed as the conclusion to Denis Villeneuve’s trilogy and, from what has been revealed so far, everything points to a more sombre and complex tone. In principle, the story will move away from the more straightforward epic to focus on the consequences of power and a more reflective approach. For now, the film is shaping up to be somewhat more restrained and political, though we’ll have to wait for the release to see just how far that ambition really goes.
On the other hand, the cast is growing and is full of enthusiasm. Zendaya and Florence Pugh are returning, whilst Anya Taylor-Joy and Robert Pattinson are joining the cast – and they’re certainly not the sort to go unnoticed. In this sense, no one is just there to make up the numbers; every character has their own agenda, their own interests and, probably, the odd hidden plan. As a result, there’s more tension, more meaningful glances and less of a simple good-versus-evil narrative.
18 December 2026 is already shaping up to be a major event. The kind that fills cinemas, generates massive hype and sparks lively discussions as people leave the theatre. What’s more, the first trailer for Dune 3 is being released today, so it’s no longer a case of waiting – it’s time to start taking a closer look at what’s to come. With Villeneuve at the helm for the finale, everything suggests he won’t be taking the easy route. And that, in Dune, is always a plus.
These are the standout moments from the 2026 Oscars that everyone is talking about.
