Tom Ford, the design magnate and one of the most influential names in contemporary fashion, has just joined the club of the most select with the purchase of a mansion in Chelsea, the heart of London luxury, for the astronomical figure of 104 million dollars, according to Bloomberg.
With this operation, the designer takes possession of the most expensive property sold in the United Kingdom this 2024, surpassing even the 20 million dollars paid by the previous owner almost two decades ago. Ford has added another mansion to his real estate empire, which already includes mansions in New York, Los Angeles, Aspen, Palm Beach and the Hamptons, with a total value of around $250 million.
It is no secret that Ford, who rose to fame as creative director of Gucci before launching his eponymous brand in 2005, has been a master of both style and finance. His sale to Estée Lauder in 2022, for an estimated $2.8 billion, boosted his fortune to more than $2 billion, making it clear that if there is one thing he does not lack, it is vision and money.
Following the sale of her brand, rumours of her retirement were rampant. In particular, after the passing of her husband, Richard Buckley, in 2021, many began to speculate that Ford might be ready to retire from the public eye. Ford announced her official farewell in April 2023, presenting her final collection for the autumn of that same year. Now, his label is in the hands of Haider Ackermann, who takes the creative director’s chair after Peter Hawkings’ brief but media-friendly tenure.
With this new acquisition, Ford not only secures its presence in London, but also reinforces its status as a luxury icon. In his world, design has no boundaries, and his empire only seems to be constantly expanding.
