Tommy Hilfiger sets a new course for Spring 2025 with the announcement of the Hilfiger Sailing collection, a contemporary reinvention of archival silhouettes inspired by the brand’s deep connection to the sea. From the regatta to the catwalk, Tommy Hilfiger has been inspired by sailing since the 1990s, seamlessly fusing seafaring tradition with cutting-edge innovation. As the brand celebrates 40 years of nautical heritage, the capsule collection breathes new life into classic designs, bringing together past and present to redefine modern coastal style.
‘The open sea and the nautical lifestyle have always evoked a sense of freedom and adventure,’ says Tommy Hilfiger. ‘Since the early 1990s, our collections have captured the spirit of the sea, embracing maritime influences and combining relaxed, sailing-inspired design with timeless style. This collection is a tribute to that passion, a modern interpretation of our nautical heritage that stays true to the brand’s pioneering spirit.’
The 22-piece capsule is inspired by the energy of sailing the Hudson River, fusing technical expertise with the carefree spirit of maritime adventure. The designers navigated the archives to reinvent classic styles, creating a collection that marries vintage nostalgia with modern performance. Technical jackets are layered over polar fleece sweatshirts and striped tees, while a women’s nylon nautical coat is redefined with cool, feminine proportions and reversible functionality.
Iconic motifs – ropes, pulleys and flags – are interwoven throughout the collection, fusing collegiate aesthetics with sailor influences and reinforcing TOMMY HILFIGER’s distinctive fusion of sport and style. A refined colour palette of reds and greens adds a contemporary twist, enhancing coastal-inspired basics with a cool, casual spirit.
A lifelong passion for sailing has shaped Tommy Hilfiger’s design philosophy, with a pioneering spirit at its core. Inspired by his obsession with sports uniforms and design codes, he launched into competitive sailing in 2003, forging partnerships with world-class crews and combining performance-driven innovation with classic American style.
The brand’s original logo debuted as a rectangular ‘flag’ with Tommy and Hilfiger surrounded by sailor stripes. Designed to evoke nautical heritage, the logo integrated Hilfiger’s initials into maritime signals – TJH (Thomas Jacob Hilfiger) – laying the groundwork for an icon. Forty years later, it remains one of fashion’s most recognisable symbols. Now, this legacy is being given a new lease of life with the brand’s sponsorship of the US Sail GP team.
