Yesterday afternoon, Tommy Hilfiger once again took over one of New York’s iconic spots for his new Spring/Summer 2025 runway show. If last February he took us to Grand Central’s Oyster Bar, this time it was the turn of the historic Staten Island Ferry. There, guests boarded the retired ship to enjoy a show with breathtaking views of the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges where the energy of summer and the return to the city came together in a masterful way.
This season was all about reinforcing Tommy’s signature nautical codes, while continuing the brand’s homage to New York City. Striped shirts, mid-season jackets and utility pants merge with capris in plain or plaid tones and oversized fisherman sweaters. Classic prep is revamped with varsity jackets, chinos and pleated shorts, while sartorial work adds a touch of sophistication to the coastal functionality of the proposal. Accessories such as scarves, knitted flip-flops and new monogrammed caps complete a look that fuses Ivy League aesthetics with the Big Apple lifestyle.
Since the brand was born in 1985, no one has been able to resist Mr. Hilfiger. Campaigns, shows, events… global pop icons have always been present. Nor have they been absent from this fashion show. Felix and Lee Know, from Stray Kids, and Jisoo and Damson Idris sat in the front row, while Abby Champion, the face of the fall 2024 campaign, walked the runway to the applause of her fiancé, Patrick Schwarzenegger. There were also musical talents such as Tinashe, Quavo, Doechii, Ayra Starr, and Japanese rock band Mrs. Green Apple, along with global cultural icons such as Canadian actor Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and stylist and creative Aleali May or model Winnie Harlow.
And if Mr.Hilfiger was making a tribute to NY through a symbol such as the old Staten Island ferry, he could not miss the most characteristic rap group of the island. The members of Wu-Tang Clan, Ghostface Killah, Method Man & Raekwon put the finishing touch to the runway with their music. The trio, who were there watching the parade, got up from their seats and started singing their hits.
In short, a Tommy Hilfiger fashion show where the sailor stripes and Vichy squares, together with the preppy aesthetics and the iconic white, red and navy blue tricolor, which identifies the brand and also the American aesthetics, shone on the NY pier.
