Following Fashion Week in New York, London, Milan and Paris, industry experts and user searches on platforms such as Google, TikTok, Pinterest and Instagram have given us clues about the beauty trends that are gaining popularity and interest this season. Here are some of the looks we’ve seen the most during Fashion Month.
Skin with extra glow
Make-up artists this season have prioritised luminous finishes and dewy textures for extra luminosity on the face. Celebrity make-up artist and founder of Neen, Jeanine Lobell, predicts that because of the magic Pat McGrath worked for Maison Margiela this past Haute Couture Week, we can expect to be playing with glossy texture on the skin in SS24.
Mob Wife
With the glorification of the ‘Mob Wife’ aesthetic, this season will see a lot of ‘just woke up with a hangover’ looks. Metallic eyelids, smoky eyes and smudged lips. For Lobell, exaggerated eyeliner makes a comeback. Tara Adashev of Neinstein Plastic Surgery: “The clean look will still be there, but with a bit more of a maximalist approach”. Think of all the TikTok videos you’ve seen lately glorifying 2016 as the best year ever.
2 in 1 products
Anthonino Olimpio, from Estée Lauder’s Global Brand Strategy team, predicts that multi-purpose products will continue to be a must-have this season. “Eye, cheek and lip tints will be the most sought after. There will be a high point in technique and products to achieve a unique shade. Simplicity, practicality and sophistication that we have already seen on the catwalks will be sought after.”
Surreal Storytelling
After Margiela, Olimpio explains: “A ballerina or mermaid look is coming with a more graphic-metallic approach. Similar to Michael Anthony’s work on Karol G and Ariana Grande”. Helen Reavey, founder of Act+Acre, says we will continue with the coquette and baroque trend. “From intricate ribbons woven through baroque waves to ‘Victoriana’ make-up and the portrayal of romantic heroines, historical influences will infuse this season’s hair and make-up.”
Full volume
Crepe, backcombed, voluminous, fluffy… Miley Cyrus’ almost bouffant Grammy 2024 hairstyle, created by stylist Bob Recine, and the hairstyles we saw on the Marc Jacobs catwalk mark an era where backcombing is making a comeback. Something big and voluminous, yet sexy, tousled and touchable that follows the Mob Wife aesthetic will reign this Spring/Summer 2024 season.
