Tyler, the Creator says he’s “not afraid” of Artificial Intelligence. In a recent interview on Posdnuos and Maseo’s Art Official Intelligence Radio show on Apple Music 1, the artist, who recently made an appearance in the trailer for HBO’s upcoming Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show, was asked to give his thoughts on artificial intelligence. The reason? The use of artificial intelligence in music has begun to gain prominence in recent months and has forced us to rethink the rules of the game, as they are capable of blurring the line between the real and the fictional.
“I think AI has to do the mundane things, like figure out the robot that fixes these fucking potholes or gets rid of this fucking smog. … Adding traps and drawing? Kind of not,” Tyler said. “That’s the superpower that we have that makes things unique and keeps things going – why have a computer do that special power that we humans have?” Instead, Tyler said, we should focus on finding ways to make that technology do what we, as humans, can’t do for ourselves.
“Like, for example, having this n***a wipe the floor [or] take out our cancer cells. Make a rhythm? No. Stop it,” he said. “It might have its advantages. Also, I’m always ahead of myself, so artificial intelligence will never catch up with me creatively. It will only have as a reference point what I’ve already done, not where I’m going, because it’s not me. That doesn’t scare me. Those who fear him are probably “people who make sort of generic music that only gets the thumbs up from everyone at Starbucks,” he says.
