The collaborative capsule synthesizes Umbro classic aesthetic elements, bringing them into Rains’ territory: technical minimalism.
In the campaign images, photographed by William Arcand, cold changing room tiles and showers that still smell of the game. XXL puffer coats that envelop the body like mattresses, maroon capes that fall to the floor, waterproof pants that shine underwater.
The Umbro archive is reprogrammed: Drill Top, Apollo Cape, Manager Coat, Fan Puffer, and a low-profile sneaker that reveals its seams. Rains contributes its textured waterproof PU, a material that mimics the roughness of wet grass on the field. And the most powerful nod: the Umbro logo appears as if it were melting.
“We wanted a presence that didn’t need to shout,” says Joshua Bredehoeft, Brand Marketing Director at Rains. Helene Hope, Global Director of Brand Marketing at Umbro, defines it as “a clean and contemporary interpretation of the classics,” a return to the brand’s origins.
