Meta and Universal Music Group (UMG) announced that they have renewed an agreement to expand the use of their large archive of music content to more of the tech giant’s apps, including Threads and WhatsApp, as well as Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and the Meta Horizon metaverse.
The companies did not disclose many details about the deal, but said in a statement that the expanded agreement is “global and multi-year” and will address “unauthorised artificial intelligence (AI)-generated content that could affect artists and songwriters”.
“UMG was the first major music company to license Facebook in 2017 and this new agreement will further expand the possibilities for music within the Meta ecosystem,” the company, which represents artists such as Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish, said in a statement.
