Volumens turns ten and marks the milestone with an expanded edition. From 15 to 19 October, València becomes a hub for digital art, advanced music and critical thought. The festival has established itself as one of the most relevant gatherings in Spain at the intersection of sound, technology and contemporary creation. It is supported by the Ajuntament, the Generalitat, the IVC and the Diputació.
Wednesday 15 October
Teatre El Musical will host two of the most anticipated moments. Charlemagne Palestine, together with Oren Ambarchi and Daniel O’Sullivan, will reinterpret Karenina. Emptyset will also perform Dissever, an audiovisual piece premiered at the Tate Modern in London. The line-up also includes Noémi Büchi, Ghost Dubs, Mt Gemini, Estela Esperanza, Soul Twin and IMGL. In addition, Rafael Anton Irisarri and Jaco Schilp will premiere Points of Inaccessibility, a performance exploring the emotional geography of sound and image.
Thursday 16 October
The Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània will become an immersive laboratory. It will feature installations by Motus Art, Ahmed Jamal & Simon Weckert and Patrick Ortiz. It will also host the exhibition Fragile Aesthetics. Prototyping Complex Universes, a collaboration between the Universitat Politècnica de València and the University of Art in Linz. The exhibition gathers projects on artificial intelligence, memory, biotechnology and hybrid bodies. At the same time, the ACTS forum will bring together artists and researchers to discuss art, science and technology as tools for social transformation.
On the same day, the programme at Bombas Gens begins, presenting works by Sasha Kojjio, Vitamin Studio and Radiante Light Art. It will also host a talk on human digital twins organised by AVRE. The proposal moves between the physical, the algorithmic and the poetic, in a fully immersive environment.
Friday 17 October
Local talent and club culture will also take centre stage. Faixa will perform at La Nau, mixing electronic music and Valencian tradition, with echoes of the Ruta and British bass. The Saturday Vermut AVM will turn academic work into performative experiences. On Friday night, 16 Toneladas will host sets by Rachael and Jon K.
Sunday 19 October
The final day starts at the MuVIM with Cuneta’s family workshop Músicas Brutas. In the afternoon, Cines Babel will premiere S/HE IS STILL HER/E, a documentary about the radical figure of Genesis P-Orridge.
