Wakana Reunion 2023: this is all we experienced

3 days, 1000 people, more than 35 artists and a lake; this is the magic of Wakana Reunion, one of the most awaited festivals of the season.

Wakana Reunion 2023: this is all we experienced

Last weekend we travelled to Cádiz, specifically to the natural park of Los Alcornocales. The reason? To attend the fourth edition of one of the most energetic and special festivals of the season. It is the Wakana Reunion 2023.

As if it were an oasis, we travelled to one of the most privileged geographical points of our country to live an experience in which wellbeing and good energy were guaranteed. It is not surprising then that the 180,000 hectares that define Wakana have become one of the favourite places to disconnect for music, art and nature lovers.

From the moment we arrived at Los Alcornocales natural park we could feel the magic and peace of this place. In the middle of a cork oak forest and an impressive lake was the nomadic accommodation where we would stay for three days. It was an original Mongolian yurt, built and painted by hand, decorated with fair trade materials and located according to the principles of Feng Shui.

Once settled in, we headed to the food stalls where we found it very difficult to choose what to eat from the many food options on offer. From charcoal-grilled chicken and seared tuna to wood-fired pizzas, all the produce was local and seasonal, and there were vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. In the end we opted for a poke bowl and a ciabatta bread with tartar sauce and tartare and headed to the artisan Wakana Market where we found clothing, jewellery and even hair accessories.

Night fell and we headed to the Forest Stage where Coco Maria and Brazilian duo Xique-Xique were performing in the middle of the forest. Deep grooves, hypnotic melodies and organic rhythms… this psychedelic dj set led us to the Main Stage with Tooker. Live with drums and percussion, his set covered many different styles such as afro tech and latin, teahouse, classic disco and deep techno. He was followed by our friend Yu Su who, with her DJ set, created a unique atmosphere that was never to be repeated. Finally, we enjoyed the funk, soul and house of Cucut.

Not everything was music, on Saturday morning we decided to attend a yoga class with Lucia Liencres to connect body and soul. Later, we visited all the art installations that were located inside the natural park. From Chakra Path by Maria Guerrero, to Cocoon by Jessica Abou Nassar, Greenline Foundatiom by Sarah Valente and Nelson Delapalme, L’hommeFontaine by Frank Davidou, Magical Tree by Pernil Otzen; Mar de Plástico by Amaes, Pantalla Relacional by Almaro, Psychedelic Garden by Phil and Skins by Printr.

When the sunset started we went to the lake stage where Koze with her DJ Set managed to stop the time. She was followed on the Main Stage by DESIREE who managed to generate a high energy atmosphere by fusing different genres like breaks, electro, house, and techno. Then came Sofia Kourtesis who, with her vibes and experimental sounds, made us escape like never before. We returned to the Forest Stage to enjoy David Triana and Rakim Under and their House, Disco, Italo, electro-funk to Afro-Latin, Downtempo, R’n’B, Breakbeat sounds.

But not everything stayed there, it was 7 o’clock in the morning, all the stages were closed. Well not all of them. The Palapa was opened for the visual artist and DJ Misterpiro to close the Wakana Reunion 2023 in the best way. The energy and fluidity took over for three hours for all of us. From disco sounds to unexpected remixes, Piro made us dance like never before. To bring the revolutions down, we closed the day with a performance by pianist Josué Bonnín de Góngora. What happened backstage is history.
