María Pineda aka Mia Astral, the disseminator of a vision of astrology that is rigorous, accessible and always at the service of the human being, provides people with clues and tools to take control of their lives with clear purposes and full awareness.
Born in Maracaibo, her first studies were not about the stars, but about law, so she enrolled in law in Venezuela. In 2008 she moved to Miami and started a course to see if she wanted to become a lawyer. But astrology was a subject that had interested him for a long time. So she started a blog on astrology and one of her friends suggested that she open it to the public. Mia Astral was born and became a mass phenomenon.
HIGHXTAR (H) – Who is Mia Astral?
MIA ASTRAL (M) – Mia Astral is the world of astrology that I have created to make it easier and more practical for people to understand how to take advantage of astrology, as opposed to what was seen before, which was to create predictions that people laughed at, seeing them as having little power or involvement. Now, Miastral is one thing and Maria Pineda is another.
I, a human being who, like many, has sought answers to questions such as ‘why are we here?’, ‘what is the raison d’être of this or that experience in my life?’ Along the way, I have had experiences, taken courses, researched thousands of astrological charts, studied a lot, to assimilate what I have learned and to be able to communicate it in a simple way.
(H) – What is your horoscope sign and birth chart?
(M) – I’m a Sagittarius. The birth chart is a Universe and is something very personal to each individual. It is like your fingerprint. However, what people often ask for a good guide are the ‘big three’: Sun, Ascendant and Moon. So I am a Sun Sagittarius, with ascendant and Moon in Pisces. Oh and almost everything else is stacked in Scorpio.
(H) – Can you explain what the sun sign, moon sign and ascendant sign are for our followers?
(M) – Of course, the sun sign is determined by the day of birth and shows a person’s most outward or public way of being. It also reveals the tendencies of the physical body and how the person ‘shines’ or externalises what is within.
The rising sign is determined by the time of birth and depends on which constellation is rising in the east at the time of a human being’s first breath. This has more to do with how one sees oneself and how one understands oneself inside.
The moon sign is determined by where the moon was transiting at the time of birth and represents the emotional nature of the person, as well as how they nurture themselves on all levels, and nurture others.

(H) – When did your relationship with astrology begin?
(M) – My relationship with astrology began as long as I can remember. I couldn’t tell you the exact age, as it was always talked about in my house. My interest and training in astrology began when I was in high school and I started buying books by Howard Saportas, Liz Greene, Jan Spiller, Richard Tarnas, Stephen Arroyo, Robert Hand and Bernadette Brady.
(H) – Tell us, how did you get to have 2.8 million followers on Instagram?
(M) – I think I post too much, hahaha! There was a time when I was posting several posts a day, I was also doing a lot of lives. Also, when there were events, books, tours, press releases, people would pay attention and stay if they liked it.
(H) – Would you say that social media has democratised astrology by making it more accessible to everyone?
(M) – Absolutely! Social media has democratised astrology by making it more accessible to all. They have also provided a space for each individual to express it authentically, as they see it and live it.
(H) – Would you say that astrology is the new religion?
(M) – No, I wouldn’t say so, but I really don’t know. From my perspective, I think it varies according to the moment and the waves of trends. In my environment, religion seems to be an obsession with thousands of steps towards ‘wellness’, which has also encouraged people to take an interest in feeling good. In recent years, astrology has been a kind of ‘religion’ or refuge for many, especially in 2020.
We are also beginning to see it in mediums where it would never have been before. One beautiful thing that has happened is that fewer and fewer people believe that their sun sign is everything, or that they are looking for a three-line prediction; they are actually becoming interested in studying, in asking the right questions, in noticing astrological trends, personally and collectively. I could summarise that there are more and more interested in cycles than in a justification of behaviour, and that is a great achievement.
(H) – How much and how does the energy of stars and planets affect people?
(M) – The ‘how’ is a trend. For example, Pluto (power) has entered Aquarius (technology) and it hasn’t happened since the late 1700s. As soon as it entered, in March 2023, it started – in earnest – the issue of artificial intelligence, which already existed, but started to raise questions like: ‘how much power do those involved in the technology have?
How we handle it, use it, harness it, is entirely up to us. Everyone, with their background and their position, will decide how to take up this new trend. And that is the ‘how much’… In terms of use. The planetary moves are evident collectively, and personally, it is quite noticeable to those who are paying attention. Most people come to astrology because they say ‘this is happening and I don’t understand these changes’ and by looking at their horoscope or understanding how the events of the moment fall on their natal chart, they make sense of them.
(H) – What can you tell us about your ‘Emotional GPS’ section?
(M) – It’s a class that comes out every Monday, where I explain the astrological climate of the week. It’s a more specific, magnifying glass guide to the month’s class, where I explain all the alignments in detail. So every Monday we review the events of that week and I tell you how you can take advantage of that available energy with activities, fun facts and interesting things that are happening culturally at the moment.
I show the topics with videos and/or audios in a very human, understandable way, reflecting the management of the available energy. That’s why it’s called GPS, it’s the guide, it informs, it teaches, it instructs so that people make informed decisions, instead of doing it from reactivity. It’s not about doing what I say to do, it’s not about that, it’s about informing them. I explain to them what is going on upstairs and what it looks like from below, so they can understand it easily.
(H) – Any astrological events to look out for this May?
(M) – Absolutely. On May 18th we have the conjunction between Venus and Uranus in Taurus, the signature of crushes and surprises in relationships. That falls on a weekend and we take advantage of it if we are open to having different experiences and connecting with different people than usual. In short, move a little bit beyond your comfort zone.
