The House offers a sensory journey through the transformation of shop windows and stores into a universe where reality and imagination intertwine.

Today, Hermès presented the first of four artist installations at its José Ortega y Gasset boutique, which the House will bring to its stores in Madrid, Marbella, Barcelona and Lisbon throughout 2026. Under the annual theme “L’Appel du Large”, which encourages us to look beyond, the artistic duo Twee Muizen – formed by Cristina Barrientos and Denís Galocha – has translated this invitation as “The journey into the unknown”.
‘There is a moment, almost imperceptible, when the everyday world dissolves. A distant whisper, coming from an unknown place, invites us to leave everything behind and embark on a journey without maps or guides,’ explain the artists and artisans alike. Accustomed to murals and textile installations, this is the first time they have ventured into creating monumental-scale three-dimensional figures, combined with embroidery and textile-pictorial landscapes. The shop window thus becomes a kind of portal guarded by a horseman and his two-and-a-half-metre horse, hand-embroidered using punch needle and tufting techniques, surrounded by flowers, horseshoes and a suggestive map, inviting us to enter an imaginary world.
Hermès objects – gloves, ties, belts and key rings – become narrative elements, integrating organically with the installation and reinforcing the relationship between craftsmanship and creativity. The rider’s serene attitude, caressing a flower, sums up the spirit of the Maison: curiosity, exploration and respect for tradition.
The journey continues inside the store, where the inner courtyard becomes the ‘third showcase’: a six-metre vertical garden that combines murals and textiles, evoking seas, mountains, equestrian scenes and faces. Each stitch and stroke aligns with Hermès‘ artisanal heritage, turning the journey into a creative process, where following the thread means moving towards the unknown.

For Twee Muizen, the connection with the House was almost predestined: their love of detail, tradition and craftsmanship fits perfectly. ‘We almost consider ourselves artisans, but of life,’ they say. Everything is handmade, each piece is unique, and every texture, colour and stitch invites visitors to look beyond the shop window.
The installation “The Thread of the Unknown” will be open until 16 June 2026 at the Hermès store in Madrid.
