Wooyoungmi immerses us in an exciting tale of Seoul for her Fall-Winter 2024, woven by the masterful vision of Madame Woo. Inspired by Korea’s cultural boundaries and Seoul’s current openness to the world, the designer masterfully fuses South Korean and European dress codes, creating a style that is innately Seoulite yet universally chic.
azz fused with traditional South Korean gugak drumming adds a soulful dimension to the parade. As a nod to Seoul’s street musicians, music accompanies every step of the imaginary stroll through the streets of Seoul.
The collection salutes the businessman with elongated coats and relaxed suits, evoking the elegance of traditional menswear. The bourgeois lady wears bouclé skirt suits, blouses and lunch hats, while scouts and schoolboys parade in a preppy and sporty mix, capturing the city’s youthful scene.
The utilitarian uniforms of highwaymen are transformed into expressions of srreetwear, where bojagi, the Korean art of knot tying, is explored on sweatshirts, shirts and hats in a sophisticated way. South Korean family coats of arms appear as surface embellishments in a unique and modern interpretation. Distressed leather bags are reflected in distressed loafers and Mary-Janes, encapsulating the relaxed construction and urban fashion sensibility of Seoul.
The color palette, such as the grays of the buildings and sky, warmed by natural tones of the cityscape, is brightened with a chaotic urban print. Jackets, blouses and scarves are filled with Seoulite elements, while sportswear and jeans are infused with this cultural fusion. Hardware and jewelry sculpted as ears pay homage to Buddhist philosophy, conveying wisdom and compassion, and the ability to listen to the sounds of the city and the world.
