Artist Anouck leads a group of artists called Wuman to reinterpret the great Cuban son ‘CHAN CHAN’, originally performed by the original Cuban group, Buena Vista Social Club.
For the Cutemobb member, music has always been a fundamental pillar in her life, thanks to her mother, who introduced her to hip hop, R&B and soul. With this influence, she grew up listening to artists such as Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Jill Scott, among others. In May 2022 Anouck released one of her most complete works, her first EP ‘Ocean’, and after giving us her last single ‘Walk Away’ a few months ago, now she is back with a very important piece for her called ‘Chan Chan’, interpreted by the Cuban group Buena Vista Social Club released in 1997.
The Wuman project was born from the concept of being able to create a band composed only of women without the need to sexualize themselves when it comes to transmitting their music, something unusual in today’s industry. Thus, Anouck is accompanied on this new journey by artists from her circle; both her two trusted vocalists, Sayo and Adhara, who had already accompanied her in previous projects, as well as the rest of them – Simbiat, Marta Duran and Andy Oh – friends she has met on her path as an artist.
“Although we are not a band as such, this group came about thanks to these women, who as individual artists have decided to come together to create art and convey this message that we all stand for. Basically, this is a band of women artists who want the focus to be on the music and art that we transmit and defend,” explains the artist. “Wuman is a project directed by me, which i’m really proud of, and the fact that in the video we’re all dressed in suits or in ‘normally male attire,’ so to speak, is really for people to notice just that; a woman can do exactly the same thing as a man.”
