Zayn Malik reflects on his relationship with Gigi Hadid: ‘I don’t think it was love’

The former One Direction member has once again spoken openly about his love life.

The podcast “Call Her Daddy” with Alex Cooper is once again the talk of the town. Zayn Malik was extremely honest when reflecting on his on-again, off-again relationship with Gigi Hadid, which lasted from 2015 to 2021 and resulted in the birth of their daughter Khai.

At one point in the episode, the singer asked himself a question he had not yet articulated so clearly: whether he had ever truly been in love with the supermodel. He had already hinted at this doubt in 2024 during his appearance on The Zach Sang Show, where he confessed that his understanding of love was “constantly evolving”.

Now, he confessed to the presenter that his ‘understanding of love is constantly evolving. At the time, I may have thought it was love, but as I grew older, I realised that perhaps it wasn’t. Maybe it was lust. I don’t think it was love.’

Zayn and Gigi‘s relationship was marked by ups and downs, and ended definitively in 2021, causing a media storm after an alleged altercation between the artist and Yolanda Hadid. Despite his doubts about the nature of his feelings, he made it clear that his bond with Gigi remains important to him. ‘I will always love her and I will always have the utmost respect for her,’ he added, emphasising that she is the mother of his daughter.’
