Zona Maco 2024: all about the 20th Anniversary

Did you know that Zona Maco 2024 will be celebrating 20 years in this edition? Here are the first details about the most important art fair in Latin America.

Zona Maco México Arte Contemporáneo, the largest and most important art fair in Latin America, is preparing a big celebration for its 20th anniversary and will therefore present an extensive programme of parallel activities, in addition to its renowned programme of conversations with national and international communicators who will talk about issues of current relevance in the artistic field. In addition, the fair will also present publishers and specialised publications in celebration of its birthday.

Representing 25 countries, more than 200 galleries will be present at next year’s Zona Maco. The fair will bring together exhibitors, gallery owners, curators, artists and art professionals from different parts of the world such as Germany, Austria, the United States, Japan, Latvia, the United Kingdom, Peru, Colombia, Cuba, among others, who will present not only contemporary and modern art, but also design pieces, antiques and photography. Zona Maco has four sections: Zona Maco México Arte Contemporáneo; Zona Maco Diseño; Zona Maco Salón del Anticuario and Zona Maco Foto.

Zona Maco Mexico Contemporary Art

It presents everything from the youngest and mid-career proposals to contemporary works by global artists and historical pieces of modern art, bringing together exhibitors of international stature in four specialised sections:

The General Section: The broadest of the fair, it presents leading international galleries with works in painting, printmaking, sculpture, installation, video and new media by the most representative contemporary artists on the global scene.

Southern Zone: Explores practices of artists, projects and galleries from the Global South or those committed to the region beyond their mere provenance:

Zona Arte Moderno: The section will exhibit, for the tenth year, historical pieces by international artists with a panorama of genres and emblematic works produced mainly during the first half of the 20th century.

Zona Maco Ejes: The focus will be on artists whose practices explore the powerful relationship between pleasure and politics. This section welcomes proposals from younger galleries, hybrid spaces and artist-driven initiatives presenting projects comprising one to three artists.

Zona Maco Design

Curated by Cecilia León de la Barra and featuring furniture, jewellery, textiles, everyday and decorative objects, as well as limited editions and historical pieces.

Zona Maco Antiquarian Salon

A space created for the exhibition, dissemination and sale of the exclusive symbolic universe of the so-called antiques, in dialogue with plastic, decorative and design arts, produced before 1960. Art beyond the Academies that, in harmony by contrast, are inserted and re-signified in hyper-contemporaneity.

Zona Maco Photo

It is conceived as an encounter with the photographic fact based on the possibilities offered by the new tools and the great historical milestones of the medium. A gap where the documentary, collective creation, collaboration with other languages and discursive exercises reflect the new imaginaries of human thought and the surrounding reality.
