Used to seeing the brand in the men’s calendar, GmbH makes its debut in the women’s fashion calendar in Paris. It does so with a collection called ‘Ghazal’, a love letter to South Asia.
A ‘ghazal’ can be a poetic expression of both the pain of loss or separation, and the beauty of love. It is used in Urdu, Hindi, Farsi, Arabic and Turkish, although it has its origins in Arabic and Persian poetry.
After the pandemic, GmbH had not presented any new fashion show in Paris. Now, it is back in a strong and renewed form, with this love letter to South Asia, because it needs it more than ever. Pakistan is going through a hard time due to the floods that are ravaging its lands.
Pakistan is the 5th largest cotton producing country, which makes this natural disaster a truly global problem. However, the entire industry has decided to look the other way. GmbH, on the other hand, has raised its voice. No wonder considering that Isik is Turkish and German, while Huseby is Norwegian and Pakistani. The designers are trying to give visibility to a problem that clearly concerns an entire industry that lives off this raw material.
For months, GbmH has been working on this collection where it has collaborated with several artists from the East. Muhammad Fatchurofi, known as Rofi, has been in charge of the seasonal prints. Abdelrazak Shaballot, a Syrian artist based in Berlin, has introduced other prints on the garments that read “SAFE FROM HARM”, “WISDOM” and “KNOWLEDGE”.
In addition, this season it has introduced a new collaboration with Scholl. The orthopedic shoe brand is launching with GmbH a range of sandals with
of sandals with technical mesh uppers. This is not the first time that the brand has launched a shoe collaboration, as it did with ASICS last March.
