Known as the “poet of black,” Yohji Yamamoto has consistently challenged fashion conventions since the dawn of his career. His collections have served as a manifesto of rebellion, redefining beauty standards and challenging gender stereotypes. Now, his creations will be presented in a unique setting at Galleria 10·Corso·Como, from May 16 to July 31, 2024.
For the first time in the history of 10-Corso-Como, the cultural space run by Tiziana Fausti, the gallery embarks on a unique journey alongside one of the most influential designers of our time: Yohji Yamamoto. The exhibition “Yohji Yamamoto: Letter to the Future” marks the first time the iconic designer is presented in Italy, bringing with him a wave of innovation and avant-garde vision.
Organized in collaboration between 10·Corso·Como and Yohji Yamamoto himself, the project has been curated by Alessio de′ Navasques, a fashion archive expert at Sapienza University of Rome. The exhibition will offer an immersive experience ranging from iconic runway pieces to the designer’s most recent and visionary collections. Visitors will witness a fascinating dialogue between the past, present and future of fashion. Each shape, cut and geometry will convey an idea of tomorrow, challenging conventional notions of time and aesthetics. The carefully selected garments will become the protagonists of a narrative flow that transcends time barriers.
The renovated space of the 10·Corso·Como Gallery, with its pure, linear design, will serve as the perfect canvas for the designer’s exhibition. Conceived in a single installation, Yohji Yamamoto’s message will resonate, reminding us of the continuity between past and present, between tradition and innovation. Through his masterful use of absolute colors such as white, black and red, Yohji Yamamoto turns clothes into words, creating a literature of the relationship between body and space. For the designer, fashion goes beyond mere objectification of the body; it is a radical expression that celebrates the interiority of the individual and transforms the act of dressing into an act of authenticity and empowerment.
The exhibition “Yohji Yamamoto: Letter to the Future” promises to be an exciting journey into the mind and heart of one of the most influential designers of our time, inviting visitors to reflect on the transformative power of fashion and its ability to transcend the limitations of time and space.
