Virgil Abloh taps 21 Savage to headline Louis Vuitton’s spring-summer 2021 capsule. In a twilight setting on Venice Beach, the American rapper dons the West Coast skater character to star in the high-end brand’s mini collection.
In the capsule, we can see how the plastic arts are synchronized with fashion through watercolor stains and monograms splashed in ink on square silhouettes and comfort-wear outfits. In this way, we find a series of shorts, windbreakers, or bucket hats dyed in this artistic pattern, as well as elements of the brand such as harnesses, plastic link chains, or cross bags.
The proposal for spring-summer 2021 transcends the industry’s most hackneyed technique, tie-dye, with garments splashed with Abloh‘s ink that blend with the twilight.
Beyond the vibrant aesthetics, the capsule is also a sustainable experiment that paves the way for the brand’s 100% eco-friendly design philosophy for 2025. And it does so through materials such as recycled nylon, metal-free dyes, or organic cotton.
Virgil once again connects luxury with streetwear and music by the hand of 21 Savage, someone with whom he already worked for Off-White’s AW16 lookbook. The Louis Vuitton summer capsule collection will go on sale online and in stores on March 19.
