For SS21 Jil Sander puts the focus on women’s empowerment and femininity. The result is a collection designed by the Meier couple that speaks of enduring values, confidence and beauty versus uncertainty.
The latest collection by designers Lucie and Luke Meier is a proposal that aims to connect opposing ideas. Thus, they have designed a set of fluid pieces that claim power and style. The proposal includes diaphanous jackets and shirts carefully embroidered in cotton and silk fabrics, in contrast with vast zips and metal buttons. Continuing with the collection, voluminous skirts and pleated dresses combined with “over the knee” boots and poppy-coloured bags have been seen on the catwalk. The simplest cotton dresses are finished off with elaborate collars. They have also designed a set of men’s suits finished off with feather details to exemplify this symbiosis between subtlety and roughness.
The colour palette is natural and elegant, ranging from soft yellows to pale blues, with light touches of gold and red.
Due to the current situation, the designers have opted for the creation of an audiovisual archive carried out by the filmmaker Stephen Kidd. The soundtrack has been composed by the avant-garde artist Kelsey Lu (@iamkelseylu). However, the video shows the designs for SS21 and conveys a message of tranquillity in order to guide the viewer towards this imaginary.
