Virgil Abloh has just presented his SS21 collection inspired by the digital era. Once again, the designer joins the remote presentation of the fashion show through an interactive digital event: “IMAGINARY TV”. The result is “Adam is Eve”, a proposal that moves away from gender-specific styles.
As every season, the Off-White ™ fashion show is focus due to its transcendence and avant-garde elements that rule the new status of contemporary fashion. This time Virgil Abloh has opted for an interactive digital fashion show presented under the name “Imaginary TV“.
According to a press release, this interface “captures a universal approach to creativity by promoting inclusivity and pushing the envelope forward in terms of how the industry, consumers and fans alike interact with one another.” Currently, due to current restrictions, it seems almost impossible to bring groups together under one roof to interact and share visions. However, Abloh has successfully executed this mission by engaging the viewer.
“The idea of ‘Imaginary TV’ stems from a modern poetic vision for, and of, the evermore virtual world. It takes a universal and all-inclusive approach. I want to connect and generate a global network, and bring together creativity while catalyzing a range of emotions,” Abloh shared. “We’re living in a world and at a time that is already largely digitally native. Within the collection itself, I wanted to capture what it is to be human at this very moment.”
Moving away from normative fashion, the collection features men’s and women’s skirts, knit dresses, suits and halter neck blouses. Abloh has also introduced one of the mythical silhouettes of the season: garments that cover the mouth as a mask. This is the case of different draped knitted designs that extend to the middle of the face.
On the other hand, the new Burrow Bag appears redesigned and in its version to be worn over the shoulders.
