It was a matter of time. The work of Kim Jones and Travis Scott for Dior SS22 Menswear has finally seen the light The designer and the rapper have given a twist to this edition of Paris Fashion Week with the proposal.
Jones’ tailoring and Scott’s streetwear symbiosis has brought magic back to the French capital. The Texan rapper’s desert of cactus, sand and dead vegetation meets face to face with the rose garden that Christian Dior was so passionate about.
The predominant silhouette is streetstyle, casual looks with T-shirts, pants, shorts, contrasted with Jones’ experimental tailoring. Iconic wrap-around jacket, a signature element of the designer, is tailored in shades of pink and sand. The usual straight-cut suit pants have become flared, with or without side slits. In addition, oversized white shirts with large abstract prints of paintings by artist George Condo stand out. A pair of chunky sneakers adds a more relaxed touch to more elaborate looks.
The accessories also stood out. Hybrid hats between French bob and American beanie, sunglasses and golden chains or pins in the shape of cactus with rhinestones have complemented the looks in a fun way. In addition, Travis Scott has given a new shape to the iconic Dior Saddle bag. The bag, which John Galliano once created for the maison, appears as a mini two-pocket rider bag with an inverted horseshoe as a handle.
Travis has taken the opportunity to pay tribute to his late colleague and fellow artist Pop Smoke. The Houston rapper wanted to include in the collection a T-shirt in honor of the late rapper. And we could see him wearing it in the streets of the French capital.
