After a year of downtime, Victor Barragán finally unveils his FW21 and takes NYFW 21 by storm with a surprising proposal for the VMA show in collaboration with young talents.
Barragán has not yet presented its SS22 collection, and instead wanted to try the virtual format in its latest proposal that corresponds to its FW21. Entitled “Mental Health”, the collection explores the Barragán universe from a more psychedelic side. Wrestling belts handcuff the models, while they wear the brand’s classic jeans and corduroy pants. We also saw new versions of the Barragán graphic T-shirt that never fails in any season. The exaggeratedly voluminous clown boots and impossible cuts have not been missing in the proposal.
This is not the only moment in which Barragán has surprised at New York Fashion Week. The young designer was one of the participants of the VMA x New Generation Fashion Show. The fashion show celebrated 35 years of the MTV Video Music Awards by featuring the best emerging designers to reinterpret looks from the most iconic performances.
For the occasion, Barragan decided to reinterpret three female performances. Madonna’s “Like A Virgin”, LO’s Video Vanguard performance and Janet Jackson’s performance of “That’s The Way Love Goes/If”. All impeccably executed without leaving behind the Latin brand’s signature design identity. So passionate about Barragán’s design that Madonna herself wore one of his designs to this year’s VMAs, much to the surprise of all mortals.
