Marie-Ève Lecavalier has cast the spell we needed in her SS22. In her Paris Fashion Week debut, the Canadian puts the spotlight on the metaphorical in everyday life and the mystical side behind dance and ceremonial rites.
In SS22, Lecavalier invites us to let ourselves go and explore our inner strength. Thus, each design and fabric is perfectly chosen for us to enjoy the magical journey that is presented to us. The rhythmic movements of the crochet and the way it is made allow us to reach a state of meditation; likewise, the transparencies and openings give us the vulnerable part that completes the balance of nature and self.
A key part of the collection has been sustainability and upcycling. The plant prints are the work of artist Marie Les Bains, handmade using an ancient technique using fresh flowers, bringing romanticism to the iconic spiral print. Oversized denim garments are made from 100% recycled denim, while leather is used for a new knitting technique inspired by vintage crochet, as seen in dresses and vests.
Together with the white shirting, Lecavalier SS22 manages to give enough mysticism to attract us without being cloying. Texture and dimension play an important role in the proposal. Indeed, the body is revealed and hidden as part of a playful and sensual hideaway. All in all, the brand’s collection is the just and necessary debut we were waiting for at a time like PFW.
