Arctic Monkeys return to Spain after four years and choose the Cala Mijas festival as their only date in the country. Chet Faker, Blossoms, Nathy Peluso and national artists Love of Lesbian, Sen Senra and El Columpio Asesino are part of the first selection of artists. In this way, the Costa del Sol will host the international event, a new festival model that is born with a solid commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Last weekend of the summer. 1st, 2nd and 3rd September 2022. La Cala de Mijas, Malaga, Costa del Sol. Summer has found the perfect end to the holidays in the new international festival Cala Mijas. A three-day event where living the experience is a matter of attitude; enjoying live music, wool, the charm of the village of Mijas, its gastronomy and sunsets that turn into sunrises.
With an unbeatable location in the picturesque town of Malaga, an oasis of white houses and golden sandy beaches, this festival is not only accompanied by a careful selection of music, but also by a clear commitment to ensure a festival model that is environmentally responsible, preserves the area and contributes to the local community, following the guidelines of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development both in its execution and in the dissemination of its values and importance.
Music has been and continues to be a vector of transformation, and Cala Mijas firmly believes in the catalytic power of culture to promote a transversal model of sustainability, capable not only of reducing our impact on the environment that hosts the festival to a minimum, but also of generating cultural, social and economic benefits that last over time and promote the development and growth of the local community.
A committed festival cannot exist without some top names. Today we announce the first 14 artists that will draw the line up of the international reference line up of the Costa del Sol, Cala Mijas.
Arctic Monkeys will headline the new big festival in the south of the peninsula. After more than four years without setting foot on Spanish soil, the band from Sheffield will land in Cala Mijas with an exclusive date in our country. They will become the masters of ceremony of this inaugural edition of the festival to reclaim their throne as kings of British rock.
If we talk about synthesizers and electronic pioneers we can’t be talking about anyone else but Kraftwerk, and that’s why they couldn’t resist the charms of the coastal village of Mijas either. Because a living legend of electronic music was indispensable to write the first lines of the biography of Cala Mijas.
An international festival making its debut on the Costa del Sol. The last weekend of the summer also features the spirituality of the Australian Chet Faker in his return to the stage with a new album under his arm; the British Blossoms and the indielectronic band par excellence Hot Chip. Latin rhythms will be played by the most outstanding ambassador of the genre today, Nathy Peluso. Love of Lesbian will join the event with their arsenal of choreographed songs such as Fantastic Shine, to remind us all why we love the feeling of freedom and holidays 365 days a year.
But they won’t be the only ones. The eighties pop of The Lathums with their debut album How Beautiful Life Can Be, number 1 in the UK for weeks; the alternative electro-punk of El Columpio Asesino and the catchy melodies of Sen Senra will also be at Cala Mijas next September.
The line up of this first selection ends with more national names such as Rusowsky, Hnos Munoz, Uniforms and the guitars and cheekiness of Venturi. A preview of artists from a line-up that will be completed in the coming months until the first edition is ready.
A festival of present and future. The event’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda and to the environment of the municipality of Malaga is one of the cornerstones of Cala Mijas. Therefore, it will base its ideals, strategies and actions on a transversal model with measures ranging from ensuring social inclusion and complete transparency in all its processes; the promotion of local commerce; or a workflow designed to optimise and reuse all available resources.
Being aware of the responsibility to implement the measures and meet the Sustainable Development Goals; the commitment goes further by reinforcing the transmission of values and objectives to all attendees. An experience where music is enjoyed without remorse, caring for the planet and supporting a sustainable cultural model; contributing to the region and laying the foundations for a new era of festivals.
