Junya Watanabe has teamed up with Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay for his Autumn/Winter 2022 capsule. His love of hats – he has a collection of over 100 – is brought to life in the brand’s campaign thanks to the contribution of Londoner Benny Andallo (@bennyandallo).
Jay Kay, who founded the British jazz-funk band in 1992, became famous not only for his vocals and songwriting during the 1990s, but also for his style inspired by the Iroquois family, the Native American tribe after which the band is named – and other indigenous cultures around the world.
Now, together with the leader and Mexico’s Ministry of Culture, Junya Watanabe presents a FW22 collection that combines the Japanese designer’s classic aesthetic and colour palette with the colourful and vibrant patterns of the Iroquois and the quirky looks of Jay Kay.
The launch includes outwear ranging from zip-up jackets to jumpers in collaboration with textile companies Pendleton Woolen Mills. The hats that complement Jay Kay’s looks for the campaign are courtesy of London-based designer Benny Andallo.
