Anthony Vaccarello has worked with different galleries in Paris to curate an exhibition of vintage furniture inspired by the art deco and modernist trends available in the various Saint Laurent Rive Droite shops.
On the occasion of PAD Paris Art – Design, a fair dedicated to design and furniture, Anthony Vaccarello has teamed up with prestigious Parisian galleries to curate a selection of vintage furniture. The exhibition, dedicated to French Art Deco and Modernist design, highlights the work of Jacques Adnet and Jean-Després, but mainly Jean-Michel Frank.
Vaccarello’s selection exemplifies a style based on luxurious minimalism. In his day, Jean Michel-Frank was the designer of choice for the artistic elite, even Yves Saint Lauren himself was an avid collector. Much of the late designer’s collection came up for sale at the auction of his estate in 2009 and now some of the furniture will be on display in Vaccarello’s exhibition.
Jacques Adnet, meanwhile, could be considered one of the leading figures of French Modernism, with his style of “strongly constructed furniture”, free of ornamentation or decoration. Jean-Després’s silver-plated chest, designed in 1960, exemplifies his innovative application of goldsmithing.
The exhibition will be open from 28 March to 14 April at the Rive Droite shops in Paris and Los Angeles.
