It’s been a month since Björk announced that she was going to release a song with Rosalía. The two artists have been sharing their mutual admiration for years and the time has finally come for that long-awaited collaboration.
Björk announced that she was going to release a song with Rosalía whose profits would help in the fight against fish farms in Iceland. An industry that is changing the natural appearance of the island and that is impacting the country’s ecosystem.
Although in the preview we could already hear the voices of the two artists together in a kind of protest song called Right Thing To Do, now the Icelandic has shared new details about the subject in an interview with the Icelandic media Visir.
The first detail is that it is a song that the Icelandic artist wrote twenty years ago. A topic that never saw the light of day and is called Oral. “I feel like I’m thirty years old when I sing this song and so does she,” says the artist.
The artist was inspired by Dancehall from two decades ago to write it. This Jamaican genre is one of the precursors of reggaeton. “Rosalía’s last album was inspired by Reggaetón, so I thought of her. I’ve known her for a few years and decided to send her a message. She replied: ‘Yes, I’m with you!’
Although everything he earns from the song will go towards activism against large Icelandic fish farms, the theme of the song has nothing to do with that. “Talk about wanting to kiss someone.”
