Swatch and the European Space Agency (ESA) have created a cosmic collection that allows customers to design a Swatch model from extraterrestrial images, thanks to a virtual configurator.
To do this, you must first enter the watchmaker’s website and click on the Customize tab. Then select one of the six landscapes of the universe captured by telescopes such as Hubble and James Webb. Then choose the color of the internal mechanism of the watch (battery operated) and if preferred with indexes and / or with a brief text of your own. And wait for the piece to arrive in the mail.
The watch, made of plastic, measures 41 mm in diameter and 9.85 mm thick, and is delivered with a loop with the ESA logo on the strap, a case and a postcard with the chosen image. For 130 euros, it sports the bright hues of incredibly photogenic star formations, such as the protostar within the dark cloud L1527, whose light illuminates the cavities within the surrounding gas and dust. Or the Pillars of Creation, a small region in the Eagle Nebula captured in violet and orange colors.
The designs are available until December 17 this year, when World Space Week kicks off, “an international celebration of the contribution of space science and technology to improving the daily lives of people around the world,” according to ESA.
