Writer-director Charles Band will helm the low-budget comedy, which will begin shooting next year.
Barbenheimer will narrate a story inspired by Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, where scientist doll Dr. Bambi J Barbenheimer abandons her ideal world ‘Dolltopia’ and her boyfriend, Twink Dollman, when she discovers how children treat dolls. In the real world, filled with rage at the brutality she sees, she decides to build a nuclear bomb to wipe them all out.
“It’s silly,” Band said. “But it seems like every other feature film is dark and depressing, and it’s like, God, we need some humor heading into 2024.” Adam Felber, Band’s biographer, was the one who thought of bringing Barbenheimer to fruition. “He called me and said, ‘We should make Barbenheimer the movie. Everybody’s having fun with that idea, so we should do it.'”
Meanwhile, “The Boy and the Heron” now has an English-language trailer.
