The book, already a bestseller on Amazon, features 72 poems by Fox herself, in which she confesses her most personal battles.
The book, on sale from Tuesday 7 November, contains more than 70 poems that the actress wrote “in an attempt to extirpate the illness” that had taken root in her due to her silence, as she explains in the signed text at the back of the book. “My freedom lives in these pages, and I hope my words can inspire others to reclaim their happiness and identity by using their voice to illuminate what has been buried, but not forgotten, in the darkness.
Acting doesn’t really allow me to express myself fully in the way that writing does because I’m reading someone else’s words under someone else’s direction,” she said in an interview last August: “Poetry gives me a space to experience a bit of catharsis through art.
Although she doesn’t name specific names, the actress talks about the men in her life. Many of the poems seem to describe her relationship with her fiancé, Machine Gun Kelly, and its ups and downs since they began their relationship in May 2020. The actress mentions a “32-year-old narcissist” in her verses, who she also refers to as her “true love” or “soul mate” and as an “indulgent rock star”. All this, accompanied by illustrations by Japan’s Audrey Kawasaki.
“You are an addiction that no amount of prayers will ever cure,” he describes in a poem entitled A beautiful boy is a deadly drug. It is, in this case, a nod to the message Fox used on his Instagram profile, where he amasses 21.6 million followers, to declare his love for Machine Gun Kelly in August 2020. “Painfully beautiful boy…. My heart is yours,” she wrote at the time. “You’re killing me, but my heart won’t leave you,” she now says in the poem.
