Named ‘Yaeji Day I SON Estrella Galicia’, at HIGHXTAR. we had the opportunity to attend this multi-sensory experience prepared by the brand.
For almost 15 years, SON Estrella Galicia has been promoting unique musical proposals in the best venues and halls at a national and international level and the most unique festivals to offer different and unforgettable experiences for all those who love music and beer. For this reason, they have not hesitated to include the performance of the artist Yaeji in their programme. The New York DJ and vocalist of South Korean descent has established herself as one of the references of electronic music that escapes labels and jumps from hip hop to techno or from house to bedroom pop.
Last Friday 17th November, SON Estrella Galicia transformed Santiago de Compostela to celebrate the so-called “Yaeji Day” and we were there to experience it. Around the concert that took place in the Sala Capitol, the beer music project activated a series of free activities in different venues around the city. Thus, we were able to experience a pre- and post-concert where gastronomy, art, positive impact and more music were intertwined in different spaces around the show of one of the most promising names on the international scene.
Let’s start by parts. On the afternoon before the show, SON Estrella Galicia took us to the fashion, record and book concept store A Reixa Tenda where an exclusive illustration for Yaeji Day was presented by the artist Teresa Ferreiro while the Palestinian DJ Saya. played danceable electronic beats. Then we went to Riquela where a paired tapa inspired by Yaeji’s music had been created. “We created a snack inspired by Yaeji’s music and South Korean origins in a bao format with citrus and fresh touches,” they said.
The main event came with Yaeji’s concert at Sala Capitol. In principle, the opening act was the London singer George Riley, but the artist was finally unable to attend due to a last minute problem with the plane and it was Saya who began to warm up the engines. Yaeji’s performance with her debut album, “With A Hammer” was neither a session nor a pop concert, but a hybrid format featuring pre-recorded bases and vocals, a wide catalogue of magnetic dances, hypnotic projections and props such as chairs and hammers. When one of the dancers fell down, Yaeji had to take her place, bringing out the dancer in her.
A multi-sensory experience that left us wanting more and so we closed the night in style. SON Estrella Galicia had prepared different special sessions for us in the four trendy clubs in the city. So the party moved to different parts of Santiago de Compostela where the new generations of the capital attended. Among the DJ sets were Russ at Bloom, Yuraq Walla e Nídia at Riquela, You El Dial at Casa Das Crechas or Karne Kulture at Sala Sónar Compostela. The best way, without a doubt, to end Yaeji Day.
