Levi’s® brings back the iconic 517™ Bootcut Jeans

The history of Levi’s® 517™ Bootcut jeans dates back to the 1960s, an era known for the counterculture movement and the drive for self-expression. Introduced in 1969 under the Orange Tab line and popularised throughout the 1970s, the 517™ Bootcut jeans were specifically designed to be “full from the knee to the boot”, a significant style departure from the norm (and a practical consideration for many) that has remained popular to this day. For the SS24 collection, the Levi’s® brand has brought back the iconic 517™ Bootcut jeans, including a faithful stitch-by-stitch reproduction from Levi’s® Vintage Clothing.

The Levi’s® 517™ Bootcut includes the 517™ Bootcut, the Sta-Prest® Flare and the limited edition Levi’s® Vintage Clothing 517™ Bootcut from the 1970s. A remix of the collectible style once favoured by cowboys and rock and roll rebels, the 517™ Bootcut features a versatile silhouette. Sitting just at the waist, they’re slim through the leg with just the right amount of bootcut. The Sta-Prest® Flare comes with a permanent centre pleat for the first time in authentic indigo denim. Unfussy and wrinkle-free, the Sta-Prest® Flare (also known as “stay pressed”) is a retro workwear classic modernised.

The Levi’s® Vintage Clothing 1970s 517™ Bootcut is a stitch-for-stitch reproduction of the classic 1970s cut. Crafted from 12-ounce pre-shrunk White Oak Cone Mills denim, the jeans come in a “Saddleman Boot Jeans” wrap, highlighting their early popularity among cowboys. Only 800 pairs of Levi’s® Vintage Clothing 517™ Bootcut were ever created for sale. Introduced at a time of significant cultural and fashion change, the Levi’s® 517™ Bootcut jeans have consistently maintained their relevance and appeal.

The limited edition Levi’s® Vintage Clothing 517™ Bootcut from the 1970s will be available on January 12, 2024 on Levi.com, the Levi’s® App and select Levi’s® shops. The 517™ Bootcut and Sta-Prest® Flare jeans are available now.
