Like in a chapter zero, ?do u love me¿ – reminiscences, the song that Alice Wonder releases this Tuesday, is the starting point of her new album, an inner journey with a fall to hell, ascent to heaven and destination in the real world. Everything she encounters on this journey she will gradually share with the public until she completes the 14 stages of her new album, her first since joining Sony Music, in May.
?do u love me? is the introduction to a journey, a dream from which she will emerge this Friday (ali despierta), her next track, when the protagonist, who is herself but could be anyone, decides she has had enough and wants to leave the office to chase a star. Thus begins this new journey, a guide to spiritual liberation through music and the senses.
On her journey, Alice Wonder – or her alter ego ILA, her diminutive from the reverse – falls in love, is betrayed, recovers her breath, crosses the forest, plunges into its darkness and is reborn. She will wake up definitively at the same party where it all began, but with the sensation of having traced a guide to the altered state of reality, the moral that the artist from Madrid draws from the project she is now beginning. The party is the same, but she will be different.
Hers is a personal journey aimed at inspiring people towards spiritual liberation, an itinerary in which each song is a chapter, each chapter symbolises a lesson and each lesson has an obstacle whose overcoming leads to a new virtue to be integrated into the system.
The title refers to one’s uncertainties. According to AW herself: ‘Losing is a scary word, but it’s a feeling I want to reclaim. To embrace uncertainty. It’s about positively championing the concept of the lost soul, because we are all constantly searching and finding ourselves. The title of the album is the concept of someone who reclaims the lost soul and, by embracing it, relaxes and lives life with less stress and enjoys every adventure’.
Everything that happens to her on this journey is a representation of the inner conflicts of each of us, which helps us to evolve and change screens. On this autobiographical but universal journey, Alice plays with electronic pop, rock, nostalgic 90s trip-hop and hardcore rave, leading to an acoustic finale that celebrates the release of the album. ‘Everything is new, no two tracks are the same,’ he describes. Pure musical experimentation to accompany a personal adventure.
